Who is Co/op 412?

Picture
Coop 412 is a Christ centered classical homeschool cooperative group formed to help serve families and students.

We are centered around the vision of Ephesians 4:12, which says:
"Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ."

Equip

The grades we cover are  from JrK -12th grade. We also have a nursery, toddlers and JrK/K class for siblings of the families involved. We use a traditional teacher led classroom, and we train ourselves and each other to do this well!

Edify

We desire to empower and equip each other as parents in our call to teach our children.  This is a place of investment for the family.  We are investing in each other personally, our children, and ourselves as we learn and stretch to tackle and master subjects so we can pass on the passion of that subject to the class.  The beauty of the investment is it will come back with interest!  All I pour into my classes, someone else is pouring into another, and then another is loving and caring for the babies, valuing them as they should be valued.  ALL the parts are so important.  Our children reap much more than just academics.  They are witnessing a fullness that comes from being together.  They are challenged by group dynamics and pressures that aren’t easy at times, but these are opportunities as moms and teachers where we can help push them into the light and truth of who they are and to see each other as Christ desires us to.  We have chosen at this time to not run as a Cottage School, where you pay a significant amount of money per class and drop off your child. That being said I have a growing appreciation for the value and need for both options and we plan to stay flexible in the framework we operate under.

Educate

What makes us unique as a coop from many others is our choice to follow a specific curriculum path.  Our philosophy is that this will empower us to grow in efficiency and to always have a clear view where we are heading.  All third graders do X; All 5th graders do Y.  To me, a healthy co-op or tutorial has to have that overarching focus to see it through, year by year, and knowing what is coming is so helpful, especially to larger families.  A curriculum-centric co-op has the ability to transcend whomever happens to be available to teach each year. Any parent willing to do the work can step in and teach the material according to the guides.  No one has to make their own lesson plans or create their own quizzes.   As a fellow homeschool mom has pointed out, “Homeschooling Mom” is not who we are it is part of what we do as a whole.  The more we stick to a track and trust the process the better we get at it and Lord willing it will consume less not more of our precious resource, time.
